Toronto house is under $600,000 but also less than 4 metres wide

The real estate market in Toronto has been tragic this year, and homes have been consistently selling for under asking.

That being said, the Canadian Real Estate Association reports detached houses selling for an average of $1.17 million this year.

So a detached Toronto house listed under $600,000 still feels suspicious. Like, “what’s the catch?” suspicious.

The main floor.

Well, here it is: the catch is that 801 Sammon Ave. is less than four metres wide.

A bright bedroom.

Yes, there are RVs that have more square footage than this house. But hey, at least with this house, you don’t have to learn about compostable toilets.

The kitchen.

Located in the Danforth, this two-bedroom, one-bathroom detached home manages to squeeze in a lot more than you’d expect for something that’s barely wider than an SUV with its mirrors out.

The living room/dining room.

Inside, the layout is flexible. There’s a room that could be a dining room… or a living room… or a work-from-home setup… or a place where you doomscroll in peace.

The view to the enclosed front porch.

Okay, so there’s really only the one room and a kitchen on the main floor, but the floorplan is doing its best considering the house is only 12 feet wide.

The backyard.

However, the south-facing backyard is the real plot twist. While the house itself is Polly Pocket-sized, the outdoor space is generous, sunny, and actually very charming.

The bathroom.

The home does need updates. For example, the bathroom is very much stuck in the 90s with the beige tile and builder-basic fixtures.

The second bedroom.

But at least you’re not paying for someone else’s questionable renovation choices.

The kitchen has a double sink and full-size appliances.

You’re paying for potential, location, and the sheer thrill of owning a detached house in Toronto for under $600K in a neighbourhood where homes usually sell for $1.3 million.

Closet space in one of the bedrooms.

And while the house is in a great spot for commuting and amenities, it does have a front parking pad. With a permit. In Toronto. For about $300 a year.

The den.

That alone feels like a minor miracle when we’ve seen parking spots go for over $100K in this city.

The enclosed front porch/mud room.

The home at 801 Sammon Ave. is listed for $529,900.
